Popping Your Comfort Zone Bubble

Written by Tammy Durden

Leaving our zone of comfort is not easy. I once heard it this way, “staying in your comfort zone becomes more painful than stepping out of your comfort zone!” That is pretty awful to realize, isn’t it? Yet, it is very true. It is hard popping your comfort zone bubble.

Think about that for a moment. Your comfort zone – that zone you’ve taken time to build, adding in all that you find beautiful and helpful, covered in your bubble. You’ve been hiding in there a long time.

The truth is that you will either painfully burst that bubble or you will continue to hide and hurt inside of it. What will your choice be?

Often before you burst your comfort zone bubble you start to ask questions. Some of those questions may look like this:

  • What am I doing wrong?
  • Why isn’t this __________ (fill in the blank here with activity) working like before?
  • Why am I so tired?
  • How can I grow this company when I’m maxed out?
  • How am I supposed to bring on a team when I don’t have time for training?

You may be having some big feelings around change as well as well. Change is not easy and bursting that protective bubble feels very scary. I’ve been there too and will be there again.

Some of the feelings you may have can include…

  • Anxiety (of the unknown)
  • Fearful
  • Nervous
  • Stressed
  • Overworked
  • Overwhelmed
  • Frustrated
  • Worried

These are all valid feelings so do not ignore them. Give it the freedom to breathe and to acknowledge it. When you do, sometimes you will be able to identify the source of the feeling. If you are nervous and anxious because it is a big change then acknowledge that. It is real and you will feel it until you settle into the normal.

Acknowledge your fears, anxiety, and stress over popping your comfort zone bubble.

Take steps to help you in popping the comfort zone buble.

  1. Acknowledge the fears – name
  2. List out the steps you need to take to make this change
  3. Take one step at a time – a little at a time – set goals and goal dates
  4. Ask someone to keep you accountable (if you need help see my free session below)
  5. Review where you are in the process and take the next step
  6. Celebrate each step
  7. Pop the bubble – the last step you take you are finally popping that bubble congratulations!

Once you make a transition or change and get out of your comfort zone, it can feel painful and uncomfortable, (ironic isn’t it?). You may question yourself again and ask things like this…

  • This doesn’t feel right, am I doing it the right way?
  • What am I doing wrong?
  • This was working before why isn’t it now?
  • Why I am I so tired?
  • Was this the right step to make for me?
  • Why do they say it works for everyone else but it’s not working for me?
  • What do I do next?

And probably a hundred other questions. The truth is that after you pop that comfort zone bubble you feel a bit like a wee baby floating in your mother’s womb again. The reason is that you feel completely out of place and just have not gotten your bearings yet. You will soon find the new normal for you and your business.

Remember those big feelings we discussed? Well, you may feel them and others with it. Feelings of uncertainty, confusion at times, and yes, a lack of confidence. Do not worry, because you will gain heaps of confidence and the fog will lift as you continue to boldly walk into this new path. Keep taking one step after the other, one at a time.

Before you know it you will look back and not believe how far you’ve come.

Okay, hold the champagne for a minute. I would be irresponsible if I did not mention that many things can get in the way of popping your comfort zone bubble. You may have a mental health condition and if you do please seek guidance from your counselor before stepping into something new and moving out of your comfort zone. You may not be ready or could just not be the right time for you – those who are in this category know it!

Don’t use these as an excuse because you really know it if you fit into those places. Otherwise, it’s time to stretch your legs and get ready for the popping party! I even brought the pin myself for you.

If you are still holding your head in your hands and can’t seem to make that choice and pop your bubble you may need a helping hand. I often tell clients, “Virtual hand-holding is included.”

I know because I’ve been there too! I’ve had to make many uncomfortable changes in life and business. I’ve transitioned several times but the most difficult decision was transitioning to coaching full-time. There were no guarantees. I did not have monthly retainer coaching clients. It was a big risk. Yet, I took the risk because my business coach (yes, I have one too) encouraged me to do it and believed in me).

If, however, you want a little virtual hand-holding, I’m here. If you are unsure of what to do next so you can move forward an outside person’s view is extremely valuable. They can give insight where you cannot see it. I’m very intuitive and often supply great nuggets of knowledge and wisdom for FREE at my 20-minute Coaching Sessions.

I recently had a mini coaching session and they were blown away. It literally, changed their perception of what they were capable of offering clients. The session completely changed the focus of their business. I was so happy for them and that they gained clarity.

I know it Isn’t easy and often painful because it is out of our comfort zone but I’m here to try to make it as painless as possible. You’re probably doubting yourself, wondering how you can work with someone you may have never met or met once.

I’ll just tell you that I’m passionate about helping you. I love to help other business owners see their business a little differently. I want you to be excited again like I am. There is nothing like that feeling and knowing you are your own boss of a successful, growing business.

Let me help you too – book a free mini-coaching session – you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
