You have probably wondered what a business coach will do to help your business. Today, I’ll share how a business coach helped my business.
Defining Business Coach
A business coach can be defined in many ways. If often depends on the coach’s specialty.
My Definition
“In general, a business coach is a person who helps a business owner reach new goals, advises about mindset, up their skills, and overall help them with business growth.” –Feareless Business Boss
I thought it wise to also give you another opinion on the subject.
“Business coaching is a process in which a professional coach guides a businessperson in the pursuit of their work goals. A business coach might help their client build leadership skills, create business strategies, or improve their mindset. It all depends on what the person hiring the coach wants out of the relationship. Most importantly, business coaching is about growth.” –BetterUp
Now that we’ve defined it I want to tell you how a business coach helped me in my business.
A View From The Outside
First, a business coach has a view from the outside in. You are entrenched in your business every day and do not see many things that could help you.
My business coach gave me a look from the outside in. She was able to see what I could not. She saw things that were holding me back. Not only did she see them but she shared these things along with ways to change it so I could grow my business.
A coach makes you think out of the box at times as well. You may be stringent and stiff thinking with your business, doing everything just so. A coach can help you see what you may be missing.
Activities To Take Action
A good business coach doesn’t only listen and provide feedback. Of course, they do these things also, however, they should also provide you with activities that cause you to take action toward growth for you and your business.
These can be anything from steps to take the following week, to help with a decision and possible things to consider. It could be one step or multiple activities to help you. The goal is moving you forward so any activity that moves you is helpful.
Not Therapy
Some sessions with your coach may be their listening to you if you need to vent. They may have thoughts afterward to help with whatever you are experiencing, but remember they are not a therapist. It does not take the place of therapy.
Coaches often listen to personal struggles as well as business, the difference is that their goal is to help you move toward business growth not help your interpersonal relationships.”
Sometimes this means hearing what is on your mind so you can clear your head and focus on the next steps in business.
My business coach always allowed me to vent if needed but then she gave me steps to take to make progress. She had me look at it differently which helped me think differently about it.
Accountability
Many people would say the number one benefit of having a coach is that they provide accountability. I feel this way with my coach. She provides steps for me to take before our next session. It is more of an inner struggle as there is no penalty aside from my not making the progress I should if I do not do the list of items she gave me.
There is something to be said for accountability. There are coaches that only do accountability today. Our attention spans are shorter than ever so having someone keep us accountable is always a good thing.
Enables You To Think Deeper
My coach is great at making me think more deeply. I know I try to do this with my coaching clients as well. Drawing you in to consider things you may not consider.
Things like, why you are not making the progress you should be at this time may have something to do with your personal life or that relationship with your sibling you keep discussing in coaching sessions. You may not have considered this but a good coach can draw you in to be a deep thinker.
A good coach also asks questions that make you think deeper. I know my coach did with me.
Decision-Making Help
Another huge support a coach provides is helping you with decision-making. If you are a solopreneur you know how lonely it can be. You don’t have anyone to bounce ideas off of let alone get help when you have big decisions to make. This is a benefit not discussed often enough.
A business coach can also help you set up a business plan, budgeting your business, and goal setting. All of which can cause most business owners stress! When they help you with your decision-making what they are doing is helping you have and learn better decision-making abilities.
I think I appreciate this most about my coach. She has really helped me with decision-making, especially in regard to my team. Helping me put things in a different way that empowered me to be a better manager of my team.
Increased Revenue
The last thing I wanted to mention is one of the best things about having a coach. That is most of the time they help increase your revenue. The average ROI (return on investment) is over 788%
788% ROI: A Metrix Global study on a Fortune 500 company found coaching delivered a staggering 788% return on investment, driven by increased productivity, employee retention, and overall performance.
$7.90 for Every $1: According to MetrixGlobal LLC, businesses saw a $7.90 return for every $1 invested in coaching, highlighting the substantial financial payback.
That is huge! Consider that for every 1 dollar you spend on coaching you may see $7 (nearly $8) in return. Of course, this is not true for everyone, however, everyone can benefit from a coach in some way.
My coach helped me increase revenue by over 40%. Well worth the investment.
Final Thoughts
I hope I have helped you see business coaching in a new way. We all need one to help us with our businesses. My coach helps me in all of these ways and more. And if nothing else, the ROI should convince you, my friends.
