Best Growth Coaches for Your Online Service Business

Written by Tammy Durden

You’ve been working hard and want to grow your online business. You’ve come a long way and you believe in yourself, Solopreneur. You also know you need someone experienced and educated beside you to help you. This is why I’m sharing some of the best growth coaches for your online service business.

You know you have the potential to continue to grow but you are not sure what are the next steps or you may even lack the confidence to take that risk. That is exactly why you need a business growth coach to come alongside you.

Let’s start by looking at the definition of a business growth coach.

A business growth coach helps their clients to…

  • Take stock of where you are (with services, finances, and more)
  • Dream and set achievable goals
  • Help you set up ways to reach those goals
  • Find strategies to help overcome challenges
  • Identify possible areas of opportunity or growth you may not see
  • Guide you to implement those growth strategies
  • Analyze progress
  • Hold you accountable
  • Review and give you strategies to continue growing
  • Increase profits
  • And more

Now, let’s discuss what to look for in your growth coach. A good coach asks great questions of their clients. Why? Because this causes you to think deeper and in new ways you may not have considered previously.

  • Length of Time Coaching – how long have they been providing growth coaching services? Although they may be good within their first few months of coaching because of their business experience, you may want to look for a coach who has many years of coaching behind them.
  • Experience (Industry Relevance) – what experience do they have and is it in the area you need to grow? For instance, do they work with online service providers are have they only worked with insurance agents? Ask about their experience and how it will relate to you and your business.
  • Reviews & Testimonials – look for reviews and testimonials about them. Not just on their website but also on Google and other platforms (LinkedIn, etc.). Keep in mind that service providers do not get as many reviews as restaurants may.
  • Overcome Challenges – a good coach will have overcome many business mistakes and challenges. You should ask a potential coach about the challenges they have faced and what they learned from those challenges.
  • Encourager – I always tell my clients that I am their biggest cheerleader! It is true. Long before becoming a coach, I was a natural encourager and still am. Your coach needs to be realistic but also positive in nature. Make sure that you get along well and as much as I hate to say it, you want to click with them.
  • Willing To Share Their Secrets – your growth coach must be willing to share their industry secrets to help you succeed and move to the next level.

As much as I’d love to stay with the positives and what to look for in a growth coach there are also negative things or red flags to watch out for in coaches.

These would indicate red flags:

  • Negative Talk – if they talk negatively the entire time you meet with them that would be a red flag for me.
  • Cannot Express Their Process – if the coach cannot express their process and how they will help you achieve your goals that is a red flag.
  • Not Paying Attention to You (Wandering Eyes) – when a coach’s eyes wander off you and they appear to not pay attention or listen to you that is one I would not hire.
  • Do Not Demonstrate Industry Aptitude – when you are speaking with a potential coach and they do not seem to understand or demonstrate a good aptitude for the industry you are in, that is also non-hire in my book.
  • Sales First and Then You – if they are more concerned about getting you signed on and making the sale rather than digging into your need(s) that’s also a red flag.
  • No Clear Success Story – if the growth coach does not have a clear story about their success and how they came to be in the place they are that is one to watch out for in the red flag area.

These are all warning signs when talking with potential growth coaches. They are not hard and fast rules to stick to but warning signs nonetheless.

Here are some leading coaches, thought leaders, and award-winning coaches*. Do your due diligence and see if one is a good fit for you.

Now, how do you keep it growing? First, hire one of these or the many qualified business growth coaches out there. Then implement one of the many digital marketing techniques I’ve written about about in the past. The best one to do, if you have not done any yet, is SEO blogging.

I’d love to hear how you decided and who you chose for your business growth coach!

Until Next Time and To Your Continued Growth!
