Add New Services to Grow Your Online Business

Written by Tammy Durden

When lacking growth in your online service business it is often helpful to consider adding new services. A new service can not only bring in new clients but can also allow you to upsell to your current clients. What does adding a new service(s) to your online business to grow look like?

What are some of the best strategies to add new services? I think you must go back to the source first.

Going back to the source for me means talking with your clients. It is a good idea to Reach out to them and send questionnaires. Think about doing this with former clients as well.

  1. What service(s) do they still need that your company does not provide?
  2. Are they getting these services provided elsewhere?
  3. What would it take to get them to use you/your company for these services (if you want to provide these services)?

These are only a few questions you can ask to gain insight into your clients’ thoughts on your adding services.

Once you have figured out which services you want to help provide (and which not to) then it’s time to list these out. It is important to keep the new services within the type of services you provide.

For instance, if you provide digital marketing services including email marketing and posting client blogs then adding social media management would be a good fit. SEO services, however, may not be a good fit (unless you are a specialist in it).

As you figure out the best service(s) to add to your business consider whether you will need additional training. If you do not have a team member who can provide services and you are not skilled in the new service area, then you should get additional training to up your skills.

As you define what services you will add you will also have to decide how to add these services to your offerings. This includes the services listed out with bullet points explaining exactly what is included in the new service(s).

You should also add these to your contract so that all is documented properly.

The other thing that should be done with adding a new service is to write the processes that it takes to provide the services. This is especially important if you are utilizing a team (of subcontractors).

After you have listed out the details of the new service(s) you want to offer it is important to determine your pricing for these new services. Part of getting this right includes doing market and competitive research.

Determining your pricing strategy is what will set you apart and make you appealing to your current and new clients.

Now that you have all the details figured out it is time to decide when to announce or introduce the service(s) to your audience.

Be creative and put out mysterious posts at first. Tell them something exciting is coming and to watch for it. Do this a minimum of one week out (2 weeks can work as well). Then the following week use creative means to introduce your new services.

If you have a team, also introduce them with a photo to show your audience who will be helping you to do the work. Let your clients know you will still be the face of the company and can do strategy calls to reassure them.

I know adding a service sounds easy but there are strategies involved. If you get stuck please reach out so I can help you. Wishing you great success with adding new services today.
